I receive weekly encouragements from a friend and I thought this was such a good reminder and lesson.
Matthew 4:42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
A perfect body, younger-looking skin, a bigger house, nicer clothes, the most updated electronics, a brand-new car, to not work or maybe to work-isn’t our lives full of wants? I find that I often want what I can’t have, and sometimes when I think I know what I want I quickly find out that it wasn’t at all what I had thought. As humans I think it is natural for us to want nice things, but as we all know God provides us with all we will ever need. Material things may seem nice, but they can never fill any void, any hurt, or provide permanent comfort. There is nothing wrong with having nice things if all is kept in perspective and God ranks above any “thing.” As it would be easy for me to create a list of wants, when I stop to think what I truly want from this life, it is not materialistic. Also, why is it so easy for me to think of a list of wants but not a list of gifts I want to give? Money cannot buy my ultimate want. The verse above reminds us of the importance of giving. It is so joyous to give and remember giving does not have to cost money. We can give our time, our friendship, our company. In a nation filled with such modern conveniences and amazing gadgets, I encourage us to reflect on our ultimate want. The want that will truly make us happy-not found in any store. Lord, help us to remember you provide all and giving is so much more satisfying!
